Fourth Sunday of Advent

I would like to suggest we spend our last days of Advent meditating on the words of  "O Holy Night".  The lyrics written by Placide Chapeau de Roquemaure are quite beautiful.

O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divine
I like the line "Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth".  Spend these next few days on your knees anticipating the birth of our Savior.   Imagine Jesus standing in front of you. What does He see when He looks at your soul?  How does God see you?  I imagine that He knows us each individually not by our appearance, possessions, or intelligence but the thoughts, feelings, and actions of our souls.  Christ is calling us to draw near to Him, and He lays waiting for us to discover and love Him, and for our soul to reach out and embrace Him. This Christmas spend less time wrapping presents and instead wrap yourself around the Christ child.
