A Kids Guide To Advent
-Definition: Advent is a time of waiting for Christ's birth that takes place the four weeks leading up to Christmas.
-So What? Advent is an important time in the church because it is the time in which we prepare our souls and open our hearts to allow Jesus to come into our lives.
-How Can We Prepare For Jesus' Birth? There are many ways you can prepare for Christmas one of the most important ways is attending mass weekly and receiving communion (if you can). Another way to prepare is by praying. Although our lives may be busy during the holiday season we must remember to focus on what is truly important and make time for God.
-Isn't Christmas All About Presents? No, with the ways things are today, we have lost the true reason for celebrating. This holiday isn't all about giving gifts, although giving gifts is a great way to show your love for others. Jesus is the reason for the season, as many say. Or another way to think about it, Christ is the center of *Christ*mas. We shouldn't be focusing on material things, but rather God's love for us, which is the very best present.
-What Makes Jesus' Birthday So Special? For those of you who weren't aware, Jesus' birth was nothing like yours or mine. You see, God loved us so much, He gave us His only son to teach us the way. Jesus was conceived when Mary gave her "Yes" to God and allowed the power of the Holy Spirit to overshadow her. This virgin mother Mary, who was conceived without sin, remained pure and full of grace her entire life. There are so many other special things about Jesus' birth, but the main thing you need to know, is that he came into this world to save each and every one of us, which if you ask me, is pretty special.
-Questions To Ask Yourself:
1.) How are you going to prepare for Jesus' coming this Advent?
2.) Why Do you think Jesus' birth is so special?
3.) How can you demonstrate Christ's love to other's this Advent?
4.) Why isn't giving/receiving presents the point of Christmas?
5.) How will you make Christmas day a holy day for you and your family?
I hope this was useful! Merry Christmas!
